Willie planned to attend Vanderbilt University after high school, while his then-girlfriend wanted to go the University of Virginia. Despite this, the couple ended up at Vanderbilt, but after six years together, they started to date other people, which lasted only a week.

The pair had been apart for nearly three years when their parents advised they reconcile their relationship in 2000. Fortunately, they resumed their relationship.
